چکیده

Mission critical systems are characterized by their extreme availability and QoS requirements, often associated with time-critical operations in potentially compromised, adversarial environments. Such systems needed to be robust and resilient in order to handle benign anomalous behavior or intentional cyber attacks and learn from experience to improve its resistance to subsequent attacks. The success of a mission is primarily depends on the uninterrupted availability of critical servers (host systems) through secure communication providing degree of performances of different subsystems and components, called mission assurance. This paper introduces a resilient architecture that provides the capabilities by combining a local monitoring and control mechanism for system applications, with distributed coordination strategies for mission management and immunization. Our approach is inspired by the way in which natural systems survive and evolve in response to environmental changes, adversaries and peer pressures.

On Designing the Overlay Topology of ROMCA (Resilient Overlay for Mission Critical Applications)

Inadequate end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) and resilience support still exists across the Internet as it is difficult to achieve cooperation between the Autonomous Systems (AS) that are operated independently by Internet Service Providers (ISP). The use of an Overlay Network (ON) deployed on top of the Internet is viewed as one of the effective strategies to provide some measure of service ...

Network Operator Independent Resilient Overlay for Mission Critical Applications

This paper proposes a Resilient Overlay for Mission Critical Applications (ROMCA); a novel operator-independent overlay architecture providing a resilient and reliable service across wide-area networks. Resilience is achieved by combining centralized topology construction control and distributed dynamic mapping of paths onto the overlay topology according to network conditions. ROMCA can mitiga...

Resilient Voting Mechanisms for Mission Survivability in Cyberspace: Combining Replication and Diversity

While information systems became ever more complex and the interdependence of these systems increased, mission-critical services should be survivable even in the presence of cyber attacks or internal failures. Node replication can be used to protect a mission-critical system against faults that may occur naturally or be caused by malicious attackers. The overall reliability increases by the num...
